The Palm Oil Action Group is concerned about oil palm plantation development and the associated deforestation in Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.
WE CARE BECAUSE:
* Rainforest destruction is still out of control. (Indonesia is included in the Guinness Book of Records as the country which pursues the highest annual rate of deforestation. Currently an area of forest equal to 300 soccer fields is being destroyed every hour in the country).
* Fires are burning across Borneo and Sumatra, fuelling global warming (Indonesia is the third highest carbon emitter due to peatland fires).
* Both orangutan species are within 20 years of extinction in the wild (killed daily in palm oil plantations).
* Social conflict and human-rights’ abuses are commonly associated with oil palm expansion.
* Severe environmental pollution is associated with palm oil processing.
* Lack of labelling means lack of choice in consuming palm oil.
* Australians consume an average of 10kg of Palm Oil per person each year.

"Please know that out of respect for the endangered Orang-utan and their habitat I do not use palm oil in any of my products. For more detail about this see www.orangutan.org.au and www.palmoilaction.org.au.
Handcrafted soaps and shampoo bars are made with combinations of cocoa butter, olive, vegetable, sunflower, canola, sweet almond, coconut or castor oils and filtered rainwater. The oils are turned into soap through the process of saponification, using lye as the alkaline reactant."

"With every dollar you spend you have an impact on the planet and it's people.
We live in a time of human rights abuse, animal cruelty, genetically modified foods and the massive impact of industry on the environment. These can often seem beyond our control and quite removed from our everday life. However, the fact is that every time we buy something, our spending dollar endorses a company and its activities, whether we are aware of it or not – whether we like it or not.
By avoiding companies with a negative track record and buying products from companies who have a positive impact, we can send a strong message for change and support the practices that make our world a better place to live in. Companies need our money to stay in business - money talks, and your dollar literally is your vote.
This shopping guide provides information on the environmental and social record of companies behind the brand names of common supermarket products. This is based on assessment gathered from over 25 sources including the work of organisations such as Greenpeace, Choose Cruelty Free, Corporate Monitor, Reputex, Responsible Shopper and Sustainability Victoria.
This website provides more detailed information and further resources for reducing your impact by being deliberate about the things you buy.
Every time you go shopping, make a difference, make your dollar count!"

Join me and share the journey to creating a world beyond the misunderstood pain we feel and the cruelty we justify to avoid facing the truth of our existence. Cruelty that only exists because we have not yet discovered how to feel this world without reacting in a simplistic survival response.
